Yellow Ostrich is the New York trio comprised of Alex Schaaf, Michael Tapper, and Jon Natchez, and they are ready to let loose their sophomore LP, Strange Land on March 6th. Today, Spin premiered the first cut off of that project, a great little first taste of the band titled “Marathon Runner.”

At first listen, your ears are overloaded with a bevvy of “oh-ing,” the plucking of guitars, and the pounding of the drums. You’re left figuring out what’s going on, and at times you might even feel a bit lost in the midst of everything. Yet the moment Schaaf comes in with the vocals, what seemed to be separate and dissociated parts are tied together in harmony. Best explained by the lead singer himself, “Marathon Runner” focuses on “the constant need to figure out what you are and what you want to be.” Be happily lost in the confusion below.
