When we talked to Willis Earl Beal, he told us that he’d be going for more of a “junkyard industrial” sound for his second album, and “Take Me Away” makes it easy to imagine him heading in that direction. It’s a lo-fi track—recorded by Willis himself on a $20 microphone—but still manages to highlight the enigmatic singer’s powerful, bluesy vocal ability. This one is from Acousmatic Sorcery, out on April 3rd on XL Recordings. His second album, one that will most likely sound a lot more polished compared to his early recordings, is due later this year.

Willis has also announced some UK tour dates. He’s still relatively new to performing in front of live audiences, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out. It’s probably better that he’s start off overseas instead of subjecting himself to the harsh American audience. We’ve seen how that goes.
