I can’t think of a more perfect song to listen to right after we’ve sprung forward. Suddenly the days are longer and little pieces of ethereal pop like this just help keep the mood going. I hate winter so much that when the seasons change it feels like a personal victory, and Hotel Mexico are just helping to rub the success in. It’s a muffled, hazy track with some real beauty to it that makes it hard to take off repeat and the shimmering guitars add just enough weight to keep the singer’s falsetto grounded. Hotel Mexico, contrary to the name, are a Japanese outfit that I’m only just hearing about now, but with an album due out in April I think we can assume there will be more out of this camp.
