Grabbing a classic Dilla beat and sharpening that Doom influence to an impassioned point, Chicago rapper Kami de Chukwu spits a fiery verse with no hooks, no frills, and barely an introduction. Normally, rapping over a beat that’s been used by a number of talented rappers (MF Doom included) isn’t the best idea. But Kami’s spark and nascent skill shine through in a focused statement that doesn’t even reach the two minute mark (with a sampled M.O.P. coda to drive home the point), but doesn’t need to be any longer than that. Listen to “Mimosa Hostilis” below and be on the look out for Kami’s upcoming LIGHT mixtape.
