This was unexpected. With the hype for Rihanna‘s new album on its steady, inevitable rise, Zola Jesus decided to step in with her own version of Unapologetic‘s lead single “Diamonds.” It’s true to form for her, a stripped down take on the original with a desperate edge replacing the sultry delivery of its owner. The jagged percussion gives it the dystopian, tribalistic feel of your normal Zola Jesus track, but that’s tempered here by the infectious melody,  giving us a new, great look at two of the best songstresses we’ve got right now.
