Miguel charmed his way into our hearts with his bedroom eyes and the sensual songs off sophomore album Kaleidoscope Dream, but the track “Candle in the Sun” has always cut as a more serious, introspective piece of music. The visuals follow a similar format, shot in stark black and white, and portraying a series of religious images and impoverished or suffering figures.

“It’s so easy to ignore what’s right in front of us sometimes,” Miguel said. “I wanted to create a song and visual that addressed my everyday concerns of life as I know it in the world that we live in.” It’s always nice to see the more serious side of an artist who gained notoriety for crooning sweet nothings into our ears — Miguel has a lot more to offer than just soaring love songs like “Adorn” — he’s questioning what lies at the very heart of our humanity in this clip.
