If you live outside Iceland, Ásgeir Trausti is a name that you may not be familiar with. But considering his recent accomplishments, it’s a name that you’ll probably start hearing a lot more of. Last September he released Dyrd i daudathogn (In The Silence) , which quickly broke all previous records to become Iceland’s fastest selling debut album by a home grown artist. Currently, the record is just under the triple platinum status in Iceland, with around 10% of the population owning it. He’s already scooped up various industry accolades, including four Iceland Music Awards in February, as well as being nominated for the prestigious Nordic Music Prize. And he’s done all this at just 20 years old.

It doesn’t take more than a few seconds into his music to realize why Trausti has become this overnight sensation. With a voice that’s as essential of an instrument as the guitar and piano he plays, he produces tracks that are so powerfully emotive, it doesn’t matter what language he’s singing. Trausti will hit the road with Of Monsters And Men in July, but in the meantime, has shared three beautiful acoustic versions of cuts off his debut album, which you can download for free.
