What first impressed me about Lulu James¬†was her fantastic choice of dark electronic production on songs like “Be Safe” and “Stuck.” Clearly, she has a fantastic voice, a powerful, soulful weapon that can stand strong on its own and also not be overwhelmed by dancefloor orientated beats (see “Step By Step“), but you need more than that to stand out these days.

Lulu James’ latest single, “Sweetest Thing,” has a pretty straightforward (and damn catchy) hook, but her rich, warm voice and the distorted backing vocals provide a good amount of weirdness to counteract the R&B sheen. Listen below.
