Cologne, Germany’s VIMES combine synthesizers with a driving edge to create a sort of softly anthemic dance-rock, fun and energetic but not as jagged or loose as, for example, early Bloc Party. New single “Celestial” exhibits a sound that pulls from techno (a hallmark of their hometown) and pop in equal measure, never losing sight of the genre at its core, pulse-pounding drums and guitar adding a nicely human touch to already warm electronics. It’s a clever, catchy combination that never dips too heavily in one pool, satisfying those looking for something more pop-leaning without forsaking the dance floor or rock roots. Give it a listen below and look out for the single to be released on Humming Records/Rough Trade on September 30th.
