We first discovered Madeaux’s unique brand of colorful electronic music (or “underwater pop music” as he so aptly calls it) when he made this brilliant mix for us back in mid-2012, and since then he’s continued putting out consistently inventive original material and a variety of remixes of everyone from Kendrick Lamar to Lana Del Rey.

Madeaux’s lush, synth-heavy productions have always seemed the perfect fit for a vocalist with strong enough vocals, and that’s exactly what his new EP provides. Singer Safra Nikoto alternates between powerful pop vocals on the EP opener “Rhinestone Smile,” and something a little more hazy and ethereal on the subsequent two tracks, with the results giving a fresh take on the currently prevalent combination of R&B vocals and electronic production.
