Weeks like this highlight how broad the electronic dance music scene can be. Festival house yadda yadda future bass SMH. There are a number of artists who know how to lay down a groove without having to cater to the glowstick set. Not that we’re mad at the glowstickers, it’s just that there’s so much to the EDM scene that people neglect because they associate a name with one particular thing. Allow me to demonstrate.

James Blake – “Building It Still”

Nothing like James Blake being James Blake over some quirky house rhythms.

Zola Jesus – “Go (Blank Sea) (Diplo Remix)”

And just when you thought all Diplo could do was generate obvious EDM anthems, he gets the call from Zola Jesus and crafts something that hits you deep in the gut.

Baauer ft. AlunaGeorge – “One Touch (VIP Remix)”

Baauer has a way of working with Aluna vocals; they find a way to sit perfectly atop his bouncy beats.

The M Machine – “Just Like”

This trio takes some time out from being ultra-serious to have a funky good time for Skrillex’s OWSLA imprint.

Lido – “I Love You (Hoodboi Remix)”

Syrupy-sweet melodies meet all kinds of mighty drops, ebbs, and flows in this remix. Hoodboi’s got next.

Tourist – “Wait”

Tourist is back with a new deal on Polydor, a new album due out next year, and this enticing new single.

Future Islands – “Seasons (DJ Dodger Stadium Remix)”

Samo Sound Boy and Jerome LOL slide into their Dodger Stadium alias to craft a moving rework of this Future Islands track.

P. Morris – “Before You Disappear”

The first proper cut from P. Morris’ Beloved EP is a keeper.

DJ Dizzy – “P.O.P Hold It Down! (Baltimore Club Remix)”

Donna Goodeau never sounded so good. Bmore club remixes always work.

DJ Spinn, DJ Earl, DJ Taye, and Taso on Hyperdub’s Rinse FM Show

Two hours of fierce footwork rhythms.
