It’s rare for four artists with unique sounds to come together and make something coherent and focused, but thestand4rd have managed it with their self-titled debut. Comprising of Allan Kingdom, Psymun, Bobby Raps, and Spooky Black, thestand4rd possess a hefty amount of talent between them. Linking up with The Weeknd producer Doc McKinney, the four-piece recorded the album in Doc’s Toronto studio.
Straddling the lines between R&B and hip-hop, thestand4rd’s debut ends up sounding like something new altogether. In an interview with FADER, Allan explained that each member contributed to the album equally. It’s easy to see what he’s on about, as each member’s unique identity shows up in numerous aspects of the record in some surprising ways.
