When Kelela released her single “Enemy” last year, the most notable part of the entire song was probably the production. Many times, the beat is the only thing that draws the attention of listeners. But Kelela recently released an acoustic version of the same song and proved that the production had nothing to do with the success of the song. It’s all her.
The stripped down version of “Enemy” is significantly different from the original but just as intriguing. Without all of the extra effects that could be heard in the original, Kelela’s voice as well as the lyrics get time to shine. The contrast of her delicate voice with the big production grabbed everyone’s attention before, but when the instrumentation matches the delicacy in her voice the results are even more beautiful.
