As ever, time doubles back on itself and new voices refurbish the past for current tastes. British singer Alxndr London’s second single “Gunshot” angles the singer’s voice—delicate without succumbing to those favorite alt-R&B fall-back adjectives “airy” and “ethereal”—against an ’80s-inspired production that fills the space around him without overwhelming. It’s a blend that draws keenly from the past, allowing it to exist more as a suggestion than a strict set of sonic rules. “Gunshot” ends before it feels like it ever truly arrives, a satisfying float aided by London’s sharp writing and clarified vocal.
