“Unravel,” the debut from Belgian 5-piece WARHOLA, feels pretty concretely of its moment—skittering, electronic beats backing effected, wispy vocals. It’s a skeleton akin to the music of British standout Jack Garratt, for example, a contortion of genres that suggests many without planting a flag in any particular one.

The concerted restlessness of the production and the haunting prettiness of lead singer Oliver Symons’ voice make “Unravel” more than a mere exercise in a modern game of combining unexpected parts; soaring, propulsive, and atmospheric in equal measure, it points to a real emotional core amidst the musical trappings. A promising first step.
