Back in 2012, Samantha Urbani was releasing music with her former band Friends. But in the years since, she’s taken time to work on new material, both solo and collaborations (like with frequent collaborator, boyfriend Dev Hynes).
Her first official solo song comes in the form of “1 2 3 4,” an upbeat, jazzy pop production that’s reminiscent of something from the ’80s. Impressively, Urbani wrote, arranged, co-produced, and plays just about every instrument on the track with the exception of the piano and horn, which Hynes helped out on. According to Urbani’s Instagram:
“The song is abt KARMA btw, karmic retribution- & inevitable self-judgement justice….The cheater never wins, the liar never knows love, etc etc. Don’t focus on revenge, every evil person is already living in hell ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯”
Preach, girl. Listen to it below.
