Music from Yasiin Bey doesn’t come too often, but it’s a blessing whenever it appears. Today brings a nice surprise from the man formerly known as Mos Def, in the form of “Marigolds,” a collaboration with New Zealand’s Electric Wire Hustle.

The soul band provides a funky bass line that Yasiin uses as a canvas, whistling birdsong and spouting off on nature’s beauty as the beat builds around him. “Marigolds” was recorded in one take during sessions in Ethiopia.

After hearing him make an appearance on A$AP Rocky’s At. Long. Last. A$AP, maybe Mos has the itch to make another album. Here’s hoping—”Marigolds” is proof he could pick it back up without losing a step.
