Who says the working world stifles creativity? Allyce Engelson and Luke Mertz met while working at an agency in L.A., where water cooler conversations started turning to music and art. They spent the next two years developing their “production philosophy and vocal chemistry,” a blend of indie-rock and dance music—Beach House crossed with The Chromatics.
Now Motion Cntrl is picking up speed, with a self-titled EP due for release on August 21. That’s where “It’s On You” will appear. Today’s premiere is a breathy, determined cut that finds the two passing vocal parts back and forth over pulsing drums and stormy piano. If it’s any indication of what’s to come, these two are fully positioned for bigger things.
