Track by track, Brooklyn hip-hop has reasserted itself as a force to be reckoned with in 2015. Jimi Tents is the latest piece of the puzzle, a 19-year-old who has made his feelings on regional rap clear: “I really see it as my responsibility to represent and to introduce a better sound from my city,” he said. “I think people are really used to hearing one thing and I’m kind of not that.”
“Landslide” is his debut single, an infectious cut from the start that showcases Tents’ ability to make this rapping stuff look very, very easy. The lines spill out like a thread unspooled, Jay Z references and sly brags fitting perfectly over a crisp piano sample provided by Kof of The Vamp.
