James Blake and his 1-800 Dinosaur crew returned to BBC Radio 1 today for Blake’s Radio 1 Residency. The two-hour mix, which you can listen to in full here, featured his usual mix of new and underground music but this session also included something unique.
During the show Blake decided to play his cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s classic “The Sounds Of Silence.” While Blake’s version naturally favors a more electronic sound, he kept that core melancholy feel of the original thanks to his haunting, echoing vocals. It’s a cover you wouldn’t expect, but it’s one that after you hear it, makes all the sense in the world.
