AJ Tracey is one of grime’s rising stars, his momentum built off the back of relentless radio appearances and The Front EP that was released earlier this year. Now, he’s finishing the year on a high with the release of the Alex Moran EP which we previewed with “Naila” in October. The EP also features previously released “Spirit Bomb” plus three new tracks, and also features equally essential up-and-coming MCs Jammz, Big Zuu, and Saint.

When we interviewed AJ Tracey he explained the EP’s title: “[It] shares the same name as a fictional character from a program called Blue Mountain State. The show is basically an American College comedy, and Alex Moran is the main character. He started off the series as a nobody and a hopeful, and goes about things kinda blase. As he gets older he climbs the ranks, becomes the QB and star of his college American football team and establishes himself.”

AJ Tracey dances all over the colorful beats (the twinkling trap of “Chalk” is especially good) with a mixture of tough street talk and hilarious punchlines, making this EP the perfect summary of his appeal. As he told us, “Grime is so vast, don’t let someone tell you one specific thing is grime, and that something else isn’t. Explore it and enjoy it.”
