Every so often, a somewhat unfamiliar name releases something that suggests heightened interest is imminent. We’ve followed Compton artist Forest for a minute now. Since the first release we covered, he’s continued to reveal new tricks. The rising rapper proves to boast an abundance of those on his new project, UNDRWATER—an immersive body of work that grapples with manhood, mentorship, and minimum wages.

Mic presence improves with practice, yet there’s a special quality that’s hard to pin down, something you can’t really teach. Forest appears to have that rare trait as the songs of UNDRWATER transition from one to the next. Skits—additive, far from an unwelcome interruption—string the journey together.

Dive into UNDRWATER, which features No Ceilings alum Boogie, below. You can download the twelve-track project right here via Audiomack.
