LuckyMe’s Littlebabyangel and Hudson Mohawke came together last year to pitch a song for Rihanna’s Anti, but it never made the cut. The two wrote a song together that would have definitely fit into the feel of Anti, and now we can finally hear the demo the two made together. Recorded in September, the demo eventually became Anohni’s “Crisis” on her album Hopelessness, where it received additional production flourishes from Daniel Lopatin, aka Oneohtrix Point Never.

A Hudson Mohawke and Rihanna collaboration has been rumored for years, with the Scottish producer confirming as such in a 2011 interview with The Guardian. Apparently Rihanna was interested in snapping up Hud Mo’s “Fuse,” which appeared on his 2009 debut album Butter, but he decided to keep the track for himself instead. Considering the strength of the demo, it’s a good thing it eventually saw the light of day in the form of Anohni’s “Crisis,” because it definitely didn’t deserve to be locked in a vault with its strong, distinctive melodies.

It remains to be seen if a full-fledged Hudson Mohawke and Rihanna collaboration will ever see the light of day, but he’s already credited as a producer on Kanye West’s “Famous,” which features Rihanna.
