Throughout his career as a multi-hyphenate artist (actor-writer-director-comedian-rapper-singer-songwriter), Donald Glover hasn't limited himself to a single craft—and with his third studio album "Awaken, My Love!" he breaks through the walls of any lingering labels as a "hip-hop artist" as well.

Citing Funkadelic and Prince as major influences, the project sees Glover trading the intricately written rap verses found on Camp and Because the Internet for 70s-inspired funk and soul that he calls “an exercise in just feeling and tone.” Trying out an array of experimental vocal deliveries and vintage sonic pallettes, the album is an unusual, surprising listen—one that will undoubtedly challenge some fans of his previous work.
