When we first heard "WithTheShit" back in 2015, we knew Ta'East was special, but we didn't know how he'd use his talent. Today, his debut EP is here, and the rising rapper is fulfilling his potential. We saw how well Ta'East can rock a crowd when he performed with Virgil Abloh on our stage at ComplexCon, and the music stands up on wax too.
The six track EP is produced by Cairo Mayeson, and the variety on show might be the most impressive part of this release, as Ta'East proves he can go in and flex over booming production or slow things down and get reflective over more traditional hip-hop beats. The San Diego by way of Russellville, Kentucky artist remains confident and empowered even as he reflects on the difficulties he faces as a black man in America in 2016.
“Okay, I'm Ready is about self discovery and a test of faith," Ta'East explains. "I had to stand up in my decisions through all the missteps and frustrations, and this is what came of it."
With heavy cosigns from Virgil Abloh and No I.D., not to mention Benji B, who is releasing the EP on his Devitiaon Music label, 2017 should be an exciting year for Ta'East. Listen to Okay, I'm Ready on Spotify below or via Apple here. Buy on iTunes here.
