It's been nearly four years since the release of Lorde's brilliant debut album Pure Heroine. On June 16, Lorde will finally release her follow-up album Melodrama. Before the release date arrives and she heads out to perform at a string of music festivals, Lorde brought some of her new music to Coachella this weekend.
Earlier this year, Lorde shared the first two singles from Melodrama, "Green Light" and "Liability." For her Coachella performance, Lorde took the time to explain the process behind her forthcoming album and what inspired the songwriting. Eager to let her fans get the first preview of what's to come in just under two months, Lorde premiered a new song titled "Homemade Dynamite," as well as the album's title track.
Lorde transitioned her way into new music by performing a short cover of Kanye West's "Runaway." The cover seemed like a spontaneous act as she told the crowd that the chords to "Liability" always reminded her of West's track.

Although the fans in the huge Coachella crowd received a great treat from Lorde during her set, it appears she didn't share all her new songs with the crowd. Instead, Lorde premiered a few other new tracks from her forthcoming album during a more intimate performance at a surprise show outside of Coachella.
