S4U are a duo from London, but the influence of American R&B artists like Aaliyah is clear to hear on their new single "Too Much." In this case, however, the breathy vocals and earworm hooks are backed by club-ready production. If I heard the track in a DJ set I might assume it's a remix of an R&B singer I can't quite place by an underground hero like DJ Q or Flava D, but the hook is pure, radio-ready pop.
"We wanted to make something that reminded us of getting ready for school in the morning, regional pirate radio stations, blissed out summer afternoons and sweaty, low ceiling house parties that go on for days," S4U explain. "It's also a chaining together of several personal experiences into a cohesive narrative of vulnerability and restraint (but you already knew that). 'Too Much' rounds off a hectic period of hermetic studio sessions and new experiences and we hope you like it as much as we do."
