If you read the post about the last leak from The National’s upcoming album High Violet, you already know how I feel about the band. They’ve always come across as bland and boring to me. I can’t help but think of that lead singer as an old, uncool man who probably gets rushes out of thriller novels, knows a lot about vintage American engines, and drinks non-alcoholic beer on weekends with his buds. Yes, I know these are unfair voice-based judgments, and probably not at all true, but my asshole brain has convinced me that these are truths.

That being said, this is probably the most unboring song I’ve heard from The National. Which means that if you normally like The National, this one should be like reading a really intense thriller novel, you wild stallion. Propers to Will.
