J.Cole is often perceived as a rapper’s rapper. You know the type – the emcees that constantly get compared to Nas. The rappers who can make everyone listening go “Oh shit!” when they drop a crazy line, but couldn’t make a mainstream hit to save their life (or don’t want to, which is perfectly understandable). J.Cole has the buzz, the lyrics, the delivery, the personality, the intelligence – he’s got it all, but the main criticism that I’ve heard is that he can’t appeal on a mainstream level.

iLLRoots is spot on in pointing out that if you throw Rihanna on this track, it’s definitely got that mainstream/radio appeal. This one sounds unfinished, but I bet you’ll be hearing a different version on Cole World, possibly with a big name on the chorus. So what’s the criticism of J.Cole now? Credit to YourAudioFix.
