Starlight Girls have some of that vintage indie-pop sound that you might expect out of a female-led Brooklyn act in 2011, but “Flutterby” is much more than just that. Right off the bat, the song sounds like something that you’d hear at a carnival organized by Tim Burton. It’s got a fun bounce to it, but at its core, this track is pure mischief.
Starlight Girlsssss. Buzz go these busy bees of Brooklyn as they collect the pollen of sights and sounds to make acid-laced honey for the slutty children of corporate America. Spread it on your toast and put it in your tea. Starlight Girls borrow their retro chic from the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. One guy says it sounds like “Rainbow Brite ate acid on Halloween”. Some girl thinks “it sounds like lesbian gypsy music”.
