“Gold” is the opening song from Finnish band Delay Trees’ self-titled album. There’s no right or wrong way to do an album opener. There’s an infinite amount of possibilities, but the important thing is to make a good first impression–to draw the listener in, for whatever reason, and set a tone for the rest of the album.

Delay Trees nailed it with this one. The melody comes in gently, but there’s a stirring calm about it that hints at something bigger coming on, like that subtle smell in the air right before it starts raining. From then on, it’s all about the build up.
