I love discovering new music, and it’s great to be able to share it with someone other than paint by numbers tiger on my wall (Leo never speaks back to me, but I know he comes to life at night and listens to my iPod). I also love it when said new music defies easy categorization, so step forward then Grimes, aka Montreal resident Claire Boucher, with “Oblivion” from her upcoming LP Visions. There seems to be the basis for about three separate songs all packed into one highly-melodic piece of skewed pop music, all held together by Grimes’ fragile but warm falsetto. Download “Oblivion” below, hit the jump for the ominous video for “Vanessa” from previous EP Darkbloom, and head here to Pitchfork for a little interview.
