Without seeing this, it’s hard to imagine what a Willis Earl Beal performance might be like. The withdrawn artist hadn’t even performed in public until 2011, and his lo-fi sound is hard to imagine in a setting other than a dimly lit bedroom. But the newly-signed XL Recordings artist has a trick up his sleeve: his voice. While the recorded version of “Evening’s Kiss” is sung almost in a whisper, he gives it a soulful spin for this live cover. Beautiful stuff.
