Facebook knows you. Over the years, while you’ve been wasting time at work, stalking your exes, and letting your friends know how cool you are by carefully choosing your “likes,” Facebook has been collecting data. They know where you’ve been, who you’re friends with, what you had for lunch, when you got dumped, and, apparently, what music you might like.
In the recent past, we’ve seen Facebook incorporate music through Spotify notifications, but now they’re taking things into their own hands. As evolver.fm points out, Facebook has started recommending music (not just based on what you choose to “like,” either). It’s a bold move, and a step forward in using all the personal information they’ve collected to make Facebook your one-stop shop for everything you need. Instead of sharing all that information with outside companies and other social networks, they’re keeping it to themselves and figuring out how they can use it.
These unobtrusive music recommendations don’t seem like a big deal, but it’s safe to say that this is only the beginning. Keep an eye on your timeline, and let’s hope Facebook doesn’t go overboard.
