In the midst of Yeezus season, Jay-Z drops a bomb on us and announces that he’ll also release a new album this summer. In a Samsung commercial that aired during Game 5 of the NBA finals, Hova shared details of the upcoming record, Magna Carta Holy Grail, which will be available July 4…as in 3 weeks from now. The clip features Jay in the studio with longtime frequent collaborators Rick Rubin, Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, and Pharrell. The album will be available to Samsung Galaxy users who download the Magna Carta mobile app. The first million downloaders will gain access to the album for free on July 4, after which it will be released to the general public three days later. Take a look at Jay’s video above.

According to The Wall Street Journal, here’s how the deal between Jay-Z and Samsung went down:

“Samsung has purchased 1 million copies of Jay-Z’s coming album, entitled “Magna Carta Holy Grail,” slated for release July 4, and plans to give them to Samsung Galaxy smartphone users for free – 72 hours ahead of the release. The users are to receive the music through an app they’ll receive later this month.”

“Samsung paid $5 apiece for the albums, according to a person familiar with the matter.”

So that puts Jay-Z at $5 million in record sales. We’ll see if this deal means Hov already went platinum.
