Pusha T was supposed to release his highly anticipated My Name Is My Name on July 16, but the album was pushed back. Now, we get an explanation for the delay from Pusha, and believe us when we say it’s a good one. Speaking with Vibe, the rapper stated that when he went to turn in the completed album in June, Kanye West gave him a few new beats to use, one of which was by Joaquin Phoenix. Yes, that Joaquin Phoenix who infamously made a documentary about his short-lived foray into the hip-hop world.

“I want it to be the intro to my album,” Pusha says of Phoenix’s beat. “When I heard it I knew it was mine man. Soon as I heard it I was like ‘Listen, I hope you’re not playing this for me just to show me how good this beat is.’ And of course you know, I ended up with it.”

The G.O.O.D. music rapper then went on to boast that there is “no production in the world that is better than My Name Is My Name.” Check out the full interview clip above.
