In the last few (dozen) Kanye West interviews, he’s made one thing very clear: he is, first and foremost, an artist, and his passion for art is one of his driving forces. At this year’s Art Basel, the annual international art show held in Miami, Kanye discussed his influences as a performer, his background in fine art, and, of course, his forthcoming album.
According to West, his next album will only feature eight songs: “I think my next album is going to be eight songs […] It’s just reducing down the amount of information that you need. People say a design is the point where you can’t take anything else away. [Yeezus] was very, very designed. I took a departure from radio and popular music in order to get this seat here. If I hadn’t made Yeezus, I wouldn’t be sitting here with this cool font at Basel right here.”
