At one point, if you believe in the powers of the internet, it seemed like Charles Hamilton could be the next big thing in hip-hop. He was dominating the blogs, hanging out with Kanye, spitting freestyles better than most rappers’ writtens, and the looming possibility of a huge major label debut seemed very realistic.
But Charles Hamilton has always had a perspective not easily stomached by the mainstream. He’s always talking about Sonic The Hedgehog. He’s obsessed with the color pink. And if you’re not on the same page as him (few are) when it comes to supernatural beliefs, it’s easy to get lost when he starts getting into magic, aliens, and conspiracy theories.
CH has been out of the spotlight for a while now, but Sa Neter Tv7 caught up with him on the streets of Harlem and spoke with him for almost a half hour about the music industry, religion, Sega, and more. Watch the whole thing above, and read some quotes below:
“In my arm, I carved Sega.”
“The only thing that can shut me up is the presence of Dilla.”
“Did you know Sonic The Hedgehog’s middle name translates to Moor?”
“I bow to Sonic The Hedgehog.”
“I believe Drake is an alien.”
“I’ll accept Jesus is white as soon as they accept space is black.”
“I take a European approach to Wikka… very European.”
At one point, he even seems to be implying that a few high-profile musicians are having sex with baby boys to rid themselves of AIDS. Good to catch up with you, Charles.
