I think people expect me to like Future’s harder, rap-oriented songs. I do—back in 2011, “Itchin'” was the song that had me convinced that this guy was special. But since then, Future has changed the game by mixing in melodic hooks and simple pop songs delivered in that froggy voice. He’s the bridge between traditional rappers and, say, Young Thug. Without Future, it’s hard to imagine what Atlanta hip-hop would sound like in 2014, so cheers to him for making songs like “Side Effects.”
