Using data for US music sales supplied by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Digital Music News has charted the huge changes in how people consume and interact with music over the last 30 years. Starting in 1983, when cassettes and LP/EPs dominated, and moving all the way through to last year, the animation above highlights music industry diversification and the way the internet has totally and utterly altered the way consumers interact with music.
