James Blake has been busy recording his third album, which is due sometime next year. Speaking with Miami New Times, Blake said that he’s currently “seventy percent done” with the record, hoping to release it “in about five months.” The most interesting part of this interview, though, is that he revealed that he’s hoping to get Kanye West on the record. It seems that Blake is hoping to capitalize on the offer Kanye made back in february.

Speaking on the planned collaboration, Blake mentioned that they haven’t been able to get enough studio time together just yet. “In terms of the actual collaboration for this record, it looks like we should be able to get something done. I know that there’s a specific song I would like him to be on, and if he can do that by the time my record comes out, that would be fantastic.”

He also spoke about the record at great length, saying, “I should hope that [the new album] will be a step on, as much as the second one was to the first.” He also said that he’s shifted his focus back to songwriting, and that he’s “dabbling in some different production techniques.” It all seems immensely promising, but it looks like we’ll have to wait until next year to hear the results, and hopefully a Blake and Kanye collaboration.
