In Grimes’ recent Fader cover story, she teased her long-awaited upcoming album with a few pieces of information. She called one song “a diss track about male producers” and then explained that “they’re not all diss tracks, but there’s a lot of diss tracks.”
Grimes produces all the music on her albums, and she’s been open about her experiences with sexism in the industry as a female artist who handles her own production. With news of her “diss songs” spreading, Grimes has taken to Twitter to clarify the comments and let it be known that she does not hate men or male producers. On top of that, she expressed some frustration with how she’s portrayed by the media,
“How about stop reducing me to a hip political issue instead of talking about my actual work,” she tweeted. “In my quest to be taken seriously I’ve been reduced to another kind of token female.”
