Willow Smith, alongside brother Jaden, has been maturing rapidly as an artist the past few years. At only 14 years old, she’s far beyond years, releasing music both interesting and mature. Her latest track “Why Don’t You Cry” is far removed from “Whip My Hair,” but maintains its very same sense of pop ambition, albeit without neglecting her own artistic vision. Its driving synthesizers and immediate chorus make it yet another win for the young artist.
It’s more accessible than her recent output, but it’s no less interesting for it. The video for the track isn’t anything particularly special, following Willow as she argues with her (fake) parents over a party that she wants to go to. It’s a little more mundane than the song itself, especially during the performance segments, but it’s an entertaining video nonetheless. Expect to hear more from Willow in the near future.
