Last night, the 38th Annual Kennedy Center Honors took place in Washington D.C. One of last night’s honorees included singer Carole King. As part of the celebration, Aretha Franklin hit the stage to sing “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”—Aretha’s 1967 hit single that was written by King.

By the reaction on King’s face, it seems as the performance, as well as the song choice, came as a great surprise to her. However, the more unexpected reaction came from President Obama. As Franklin sat by the piano to sing her big hit, Obama was seen wiping away a tear just a few notes into the brilliant performance. The varying emotional reactions were well-deserved as Franklin shook the venue with her incredible voice, and brought the entire audience to their feet for applause before the performance had even ended.

Watch the moving performance.
