With his album ★ (pronounced Blackstar) set for release tomorrow, David Bowie has unleashed some beautiful, disturbing visuals for “Lazarus.” Part-time Breaking Bad director Johan Renck is back on board (he directed the 10-minute video for title track “Blackstar”), and Renck opens with Bowie in the same button-eye bandage, cringing in pain at a hospital ward.

Bowie has cited Kendrick Lamar as an influence for the album, and this is evidence the impact goes beyond off-kilter jazz—like Kendrick, Bowie is delivering powerful, symbolic visuals. Check out the video above.
