In October, Kendrick Lamar visited the White House for reasons then-unknown, but it was later revealed that he met with President Barack Obama in the Oval Office. Now, Top Dawg Entertainment has shared a teaser video of their conversation titled “Pay It Forward,” in which Lamar says the two discussed troubled communities and the impact a mentor can have on a young person without proper guidance in life.
“I look where I’m at today and realize that most of my success is owed to the mentors that [were] in my life,” he said. “I sat down with President Barack Obama and shared the same views, topics concerning the inner cities: the problem, the solutions, and furthermore, embracing the youth, both being aware that mentoring saves lives.”
A couple months after their conversation, President Obama said that Lamar’s “How Much A Dollar Cost” was his favorite song of 2015.
The video doesn’t feature any footage of the conversation, but does include a few photos of the meeting. Watch “Pay It Forward” below.
