The saga of pharmaceuticals CEO Martin Shkreli and his purchase of Wu-Tang Clan’s one-of-a-kind album, Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, is a crazy one so let’s recap. First Shkreli bought it for 2 million back in December, then randomly he announced he was also going to bail out Bobby Shmurda, but then he got arrested by the FBI so that plan got canned, and just over a week ago, the U.S. Marshals Office stated they may target the album as part of Shkreli’s investigation. Phew.
Throughout everything, Wu-Tang has stayed relatively quiet on the ordeal, but now RZA is speaking out on the matter. In an interview with Bloomberg, the rapper admitted there wasn’t much anyone could do, simply stating, “He bought it, he can do what he wants.”
He goes on to offer a suggestion for a way Shkreli could thoughtfully share the album saying, “If Mr. Shkreli feels philanthropic, he has the power to do something really cool, you know what I mean? He could do something that would allow more people to hear the record.” RZA’s ideas? A museum or a public release.
Oh and about that whole Bill Murray heist rumor? Yea, that’s unfortunately not true.
