Sacha Baron Cohen is currently promoting his new movie, Grimsby, and as many have noticed, his character in the film bears a striking resemblance to Oasis’ frontman Liam Gallagher. When Cohen sat down with Conan O’Brien, he explained that the resemblance isn’t a coincidence, as he was inspired to style his character in the film after Gallagher due to a brief encounter he had with him at GQ’s Men of the Year Awards in 2012. The story starts pretty tame, but it gets completely ridiculous when Cohen comes across Gallagher and Bono at a party after the show.
The story has to be heard directly from Cohen’s mouth to be believed, especially when Cohen explains that Gallagher started insisting he was John Lennon. Cohen also managed to to screen an early version of Grimsby to Kanye West and the Kardashian’s, and it would seem that they give the film their approval. Although, it might be wise to take Kanye’s endorsements when it comes to comedy with a grain of salt, because Zoolander 2‘s not exactly a critical masterpiece or anything.
Watch Cohen tell the insane story above, and watch Kanye and the Kardashian’s reactions to a scene from Grimsby below.
