Kamaiyah’s A Good Night In The Ghetto mixtape has been one of the nicest surprises of the year so far, featuring songs like “How Does It Feel,” which we’ve had in constant rotation over the last couple months.
Today, the 21-year-old Oakland rapper shared visuals for emotional mixtape closer “For My Dawg,” and used the opportunity to pay tribute to two of her friends who lost their lives recently: James (who lost a battle with cancer) and Fred (who was murdered in Oakland). Splicing old clips of her fallen friends into the video, she manages to open up and make an already personal song an even more intimate look at her life.
“For the most part, the video is just of James and Fred from the past,” she told The FADER. “It’s us doing weird stuff and having fun. It’ll probably make you cry if you’re close to us because you’re gonna see them living and enjoying themselves.”
