Despite the fact that M.I.A. seems to be an artist who has steady control over her art, she’s revealed today via Twitter that there are certain roadblocks in the way of fans hearing her new LP.

“I am handing my last LP in to my American label this week,” says M.I.A. The only catch, though, appears to be the fact that it will be up to the label if the album actually gets released. This is due to the fact that M.I.A. doesn’t have a visa. Without a U.S. visa, not only would she not be able to promote the follow-up to 2013’s Matangi herself, but this would also make touring difficult.

Issues with visas and related troubles are not rare amongst artists. Earlier this year, Yasiin Bey encountered “legal and immigration issues” that led him to cancel his U.S. tour. Skepta has also been delaying his tour due to visa troubles. Hopefully, things will get cleared up for M.I.A. soon.
